Anorexia nervosa: disorder marked by the pursuit of extreme thinness and by an extreme loss of weight. Binge eating/purging-type anorexia nervosa: abusing laxatives/diuretics, binge eat + vomit. Appear at any age, peak is 14-20 years old. Begins with person slightly overweight or of normal weight. Preoccupied with food could be result of deprivation. Usually have depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and insomnia/other sleep disturbances. Lowered body temperature, low blood pressure, body swelling, reduce mineral bone density, slow heart rate. Skin can become rough, dry, cracked, nails brittle, hands + feet cold/blue, some lose hair from scalp result of poor nutrition. Bulimia nervosa: disorder marked by frequent eating binges that are followed by forced vomiting or other extreme compensatory behaviours to avoid gaining weight. Binge: episode of uncontrollable eating during which a person ingests a very large quantity of food. Adolescence or young adulthood 15-20 years of age.
