Eating disorders and substance use and addictive disorders. Western society equates thinness with health and beauty. There are 2 main diagnoses: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa. The focus on the two disorders above, the objective is to not gain weight. Individual purposely takes in too little nourishment, resulting in body weight that is very low and below that of people of similar age and gender. Individual is fearful of gaining weight, or repeatedly seeks to prevent weight gain in despite of low body weight. Individual has a distorted body perception, places inappropriate emphasis on weight or shape in judgements of themselves, or fails to appreciate the serious implications of her or his low weight. Anorexia is a refusal to maintain more than 85% of normal body weight: this leads to very serious and/or medical situations. There are two main subtypes: restricting type. Lose weight by cutting out sweets and fattening snacks, eventually eliminating nearly all food.
