PSYC 2230 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Classical Conditioning, Latent Learning, John Bowlby
Document Summary
S m r: classical conditioning 3 approaches: m is emphasized the energizing properties, emotionality is important, information aspects of the mediator, incentive as energizers. Internal drive was the primary device for motivational behaviours. A large reward should lead to more vigorous chewing and swallowing than a small reward: the consummatory response (rg), does not occur in a vacuum. For rats the stimulus of the goal box are present during its occurrence. Stimulus present when rg occurs will become associated with it and will tend, after a few trials, to elicit rg directly. To the extent that these stimuli also occur before the organism reaches the goal box, they will tend to elicit rg before the goal. It was assumed that stimuli similar to those present in the goal box would elicit only a partial consummatory response rg, which would not interfere with the instrumental responses (running) required in order to reach the food.
