Document Summary
Incentive usually describes some goal object that motivates us; good when we need to reach or avoid a goal. Can differ in value and can change. Incentives motivate behaviour; ex. wanting a big promotion motivating you to focus and override important things like sleep and food. Thoughts can serve as incentive motivators; helps explain why people and animals do what they do. Before internal drives was main theory for motivation but then realized that external objects (goals) also motivate. Incentive motivation (k) = started in 50s; if a goal can influence a pe(cid:396)so(cid:374)(cid:859)s behaviour. Before you have achieved the goal then there must be a way that people can come to anticipate the availability of the goal. Anticipation motivates them to behave in ways to get to goal. If there is some sort of stimuli like a floor texture or wall brightness this can elicit the rg before the goal.
