Ancient views: dreams have secret meanings that can interpreted by experts + they represent wishes in disguised form + result from experiences and ideas in waking life. Based mostly on the analysis of his own dreams. Dreams result from dynamic interaction of: unconscious wishes, the censoring mechanisms of the ego, events in waking life. Single best source of information about person"s unconscious. Manifest content: what people remember about a dream. Latent content: set of underlying intrapsychic events that led to the manifest content. Unconscious thoughts, wishes etc that are expressed in disguise form in the manifest content. Dream work: process by which latent dream content is transformed into manifest content.
