Research reports are divided into 4 sections: introduction and literature review, methods, Results and discussion. (will discuss first 2 in this chapter) Help the reader distinguish between facts, speculations and questions in report. Provide a reader with source to factual info. Provide the location or a report in a book/journal. Usually short from 2-3 paragraphs to a few pages (depending on where its published) When reading research you may notice new questions being added. Most new research questions originate from3 sources: theories, previous research, practical problems. Function of theories is to help researchers ask new questions. One way is by making prediction based on a theory. If the findings are consistent with the prediction, the theory is supported and new predictions may lead to new research or else it may be modified. So findings of a single study do not constitute proof of one form of practice is superior over 10 other forms.
