Document Summary
Research reports usually divided into four sections: Introduction and literature review: methods, results, discussion. Serves two main purposes: to present a discussion of the question under investigations, to present a review of the literature relevant to the question. First goal of this section is to describe the question under investigations. Purpose of introduction is to establish the foundation for the question. Introduction sets the stage for the remainder of report by: presenting the question, discussing the current known facts, showing how the investigation will contribute to the body of knowledge. Reviewing the literature is done partially by citing previously published reports and providing references for those reports. Length of this section varies widely (couple of paragraphs in some reports versus lengthy chapters in other reports e. g. dissertations) I(cid:374) (cid:373)ost reports, it"s relatively short typically from 1 or 2 paragraphs to a few pages.
