Type 1: auto-immune process cause complete and irreversible destruction of pancreas. Generally occurs between 12-14 years and trigger not known. Secondary diabetes caused by medical condition, diease, or medications. Can occur any age, can be partial or complete destruction of pancreas. Insulin first discovered by candians banting and best in 1922.
