PS101 Chapter Notes - Chapter appendix b: Frequency Distribution, Statistical Hypothesis Testing, Effect Size
Document Summary
Instructor wants to know how they performed on test. Ungrouped frequency distribution- count of number of times each specific data point or score appears in a data set. Ex: count of how many students received 32, 36 etc. Grouped frequency distribution- count of the number of times specific data points fall into a range of values in data set. Using this allows to identify aspects of the data. Frequency polygons: line graph showing grouped frequency distribution, created by connecting midpoints of data, midpoint (centre) Ex: 1st class 30-34; 30+34 divided by 2. Measures of central tendency: numbers used to summarize data sets, mean, median, mode, mean= total # in set divided total # Ex: 15&16 middle # (50+51/2)=50. 5: mode= most frequent number. Measure of variability: tells how different the values are within a data set. Is the difference between the smallest and largest value in data set.
