Document Summary
Chapter 7: theories and models commonly used for health promotion interventions. Theory: presents a systematic way of understanding events, behaviours and/or situations. Every theory is characterized by the 3 following elements: major factors that influence the phenomena of interest, (ex. factors explaining why some ppl are regularly active and why others are not. Relationship between these factors (ex. relationship between knowledge and physical activity); Conditions under which these (cid:396)elatio(cid:374)ships do/do(cid:374)(cid:859)t o(cid:272)(cid:272)u(cid:396) aka the ho(cid:449), (cid:449)he(cid:374) a(cid:374)d (cid:449)h(cid:455) of h(cid:455)pothesised (cid:396)elatio(cid:374)ships (cid:894)e(cid:454)/ ti(cid:373)e, pla(cid:272)e a(cid:374)d (cid:272)i(cid:396)(cid:272)u(cid:373)sta(cid:374)(cid:272)es which lead to someone being active or inactive) Concepts = primary elements or building blocks of a theory. Construct = when a concept has been developed, created or adopted for use with a specific theory. Variable = the operational/practice form of a construct. These specify how a construct is to be measured in a specific situation.
