Reasoning and decision making can be performed in a number of ways and can be influenced by a number of factors. That is why we don"t all respond the same way to the same situation. When we try to solve a problem or decide between alternatives, we are actually drawing on our knowledge of different concepts and using that information to try to imagine different possible outcomes. How well we perform these tasks depends on a number of factors including our problem-solving strategies and the type of information available to us. Problem solving accomplishing a goal when the solution or the path to the solution is not clear: involves finding techniques or strategies that allow us to overcome obstacles that interfere with our ability to reach our goals. Different problems call for different approaches in some cases, it might be useful to start off with one type of problem solving and then switch to another.
