Document Summary

Major concern for aging population and women is at the epicentre of the alzheimer"s disease (ad) epidemic. There is lack of any therapeutic regimen for neurodegenerative diseases o. In the case of alzheimer"s disease, there is not a single therapeutic that exerts anything beyond a marginal, unstained symptomatic effect, with little or no effect on disease progression. The appraoch to drug development for ad might not be optimal, suggest a shift toward combination therapy (unexplored in dementia) o. Network-based therapeutics appraoch, rather than a single target-based appraoch may be feasible and potentially more effective for the treatment of cog decline due to ad. In addition, to amyloid- (a ) oligomers and tau preclinical studies are beginning to unravel many potential targets for intervention in the pathogenesis of ad o. Many of these studies have focused on single-pathways and shown large effects however this has not been implemented in human studies.
