Most people define intelligence as an ability to think, understand, reason, learn and find solutions to problems. Scientific evidence for intelligence developed by charles spearman. He used techniques to calculate correlations among multiple measures of mental abilities. One of the techniques is called factor analysis. Factor analysis: a statistical technique that examines correlations between variables to find clusters of related variables, or factors. :ex) scores on tests of vocabulary, reading comprehension, and verbal reasoning correlate highly together and they form a language ability factor. Spearman found that schoolchildren"s grades in different school subjects were positively correlated. -- he discovered general intelligence factor(g). - he believed some people"s brains are more powerful than others. General intelligence factor (g): represents an individual"s mental energy. Robert sternberg developed the triarchic theory of intelligence. Creative intelligence the ability to create new ideas and generate novel solutions to problems artists and scientists. Howard gardner proposed more elaborated theory of multiple intelligences than sternberg.
