7. 1 what is a group: 2+ people interacting interdependently to achieve a common goal. Interaction is the most basic concept of a group. It does not always have to be verbal either. All groups have 1+ goals they wish to achieve. Memberships in groups are importance because they exert tremendous influence and provides setting for us to exert influence onto others: formal work groups are groups that are established by organization to facilitate the achievement of organizational goals. They are intentionally designed to channel individual effort, most common is manager who has employees report to him/her. Other examples include task forces, project teams : informal groups are groups that emerge naturally in response to common interests of organizational members. 7. 2 what is group development: typical stages: (a) forming: orient themselves by testing the water (b) storming: confrontation, criticism and conflict, sorting out roles.
