Frontal lobe= memories,
conscious thinking, emotions,
initiating movements, speech,
impulse control, judgement,
sense of smell
Left hemisphere= more specialized for
speech and language
Parietal lobe= processes touch,
and sensory information
Right hemisphere= appreciation of 3D
space and spatial relationships.
Temporal lobe= sounds or
auditory signals from inner ear,
experiencing of strong emotions
Thalamus= Information from the
sensory organs and motor signals
from subcortical structures like the
basal ganglia are received by thalamic
regions and relayed separately to
cortex. The thalamus is also involved
in regulating wakefulness and sleep.
Occipital lobe= processes visual
info from eyes
Hypothalamus= Area of the brain that
controls the hormonal system, drives
(like hunger and thirst), and body
temperature, where the behaviours
are responses to these drives.
Primary motor cortex= The part
of the brain that generates the
motor commands resulting in
the voluntary movement of
parts of the body. BACK PART
OF FRONTALCORTEX.
Brain stem= The lower part of the
brain that connects it with the spinal
cord; important for consciousness,
sleep, and life-maintaining functions
like breathing and heartbeat.
Primary somatosensory cortex=
FRONT PART OF PARIETAL. First
cortical relay receiving
information on touch from the
thalamus.
Cerebellum= Pair of hemispheres
resembling the cerebral hemispheres
that are involved in motor control –
the cerebellum ensures that
movements are coordinated, well
timed, and precise.
Primary auditory cortex=
perceptions of sound, located in
temporal lobe
Hippocampus= Part of the limbic
system of the brain, essential for
encoding certain types of memory,
including learning one's way around a
place (spatial memory) and memories
of facts and knowledge that can be
consciously retrieved (declarative
memory).
