Document Summary
Identify the major structures, their function and location. Identify the four lobes and their function. Explain the concepts of cortical lateralization of function and more generally, localization of function. Explain split brain lateralization, how it isolates the two hemispheres and explain how research has helped our understanding of hemispheric specialization of function. Describe how the structure of the central nervous system influences behaviour. Aphasia effects an individual"s speech ability and can be found in two areas of the brain, and results from damage to structures of the brain. Broca"s aphasia: associated with damage to the front left of the brain. Individuals do not have trouble understanding language but have difficulty producing speech. Wernicke"s aphasia: associated damage to the back left are of the brain. They can produce language but it does not make sense. Describe the basic brain structures and their functions. The brain is dived into two hemispheres, the left and right.
