Document Summary
Examined how bisexuals become aware of these problems and how they try to come to terms with their "sexual identity" Becoming bisexual involves the rejection of 2 categories of sexual identity; straight and gay. Models developed to chart the stages of development of homosexuality, all models involve 3 same elements. Begins with person in a state of identity confusion. Period of thinking about possibly being homosexual. Integrate ones self concept and social identity as homosexual. Not everyone follows through every stage; can get locked at a certain stage or move back and forth. Double and struggle regarding sexual identity before defining themselves as bisexual. Experience of having strong sexual feelings for both genders, and thought that this meant there long standing heterosexuality would end. Consequence was often long term denial - more common in men to deny. For people who didn"t know of the category "bisexual", when learned, was a turning point. Made sense of having feelings for both sexes.
