In 2011; canada had 4. 95 million people over the age of 65 and over. Older population makes up 14. 8% of the population and believe it would grow up to 9. 8 million by 2016. Older population puts new demands on the social structure of canada: social structure: relatively stable pattern of social interaction, family, education system and healthcare can all fit in this. Education system will attract more older people, they will need a diff type of learning style. Healthcare system looks at short term illness (acute) but need to look at chronic illness instead. Gerontology is the discipline that systematically studies aging either through how it affects the individual or society. Treat jessie like a frail old women, people look at her kind face, grey hair and wrinkles and because of that she needs help. Need help doing simple things because of her age.
