Pop culture associates being nice with a social disadvantage. Agreeableness had developmental roots in temperamental processes (such as self regulatory ability to control undesirable emotions). Adolescents high on self control and low on aggressiveness were more likely to become agreeable adults than other adolescents. There has been research related to a serotonin related gene that suggests that there are biological bases for agreeableness. Women score higher on agreeableness than men. These differences are consistent across cultures and ages suggests there are evolutionary pressures that have created these sex differences. The magnitude of these differences suggests they are in uenced by cultural contexts socialization also in uences differences in agreeableness. A jean-pierre rolland (2002) while n, o and c are largely invariant, agreeableness and e are considerably more sensitive to cultural contexts. Parents in some cultures pay more attention to agreeableness than parents in other cultures.
