Document Summary

In act 2 scene 1 of shakespeare"s the tempest, gonzalo describes what he would do had he the power to rule over a nation. Based on his character throughout the novel, he is clearly one of the few characters that are genuinely good people. He has been the king"s councillor and helped save propero and miranda from danger. Based on his character, his idea of the kind of commonwealth he would want to establish is very interesting. He seems to generally want to live in a world of equality but at the same time does not seem to have a full understanding of how a society like that would function. On paper it all appears to sounds great, everyone would be equal, and no one would have to work all men idle, all. And women too, but innocent and pure. (2. 1. 149-150).
