Skepticism = one withholds their senses to everything they possibly can; do not disagree/agree with any viewpoints. Hume discusses the connections that exist between ideas, asserting that all ideas are linked to other ideas. He lays out 3 principles by which ideas might be associated: *resemblance (where a picture of a tree might make us think of the tree) *contiguity [being in direct contact with something else] in time or place (where mention of one apartment might lead us to discuss others) *cause and effect (where the thought of a wound makes us think of the pain that follows from it) Resemblance & contiguity happen through direct experience. Section iv skeptical doubts concerning the operations of the understanding. All of the objects of human reason or enquiry may be divided into two kinds: relations of ideas and matters of fact.
