Document Summary

Homeostasis is the ability to maintain relatively stable internal conditions. Homeostasis is maintained via nervous and endocrine system. Maintaining boundaries keeping the inside in and the outside out. Contractility of muscle cells and internal movement of blood, fluids, etc. Responsiveness be able to respond to a stimuli and act. Digestion breaking down ingested material to usable molecules, absorbed by the blood and distributed to all other cells. Metabolism collection of biochemical pathways at the cellular level. Excretion removal of wastes produced during metabolism. Cells, body parts, and whole organisms can grow, regulated by a complex web of chemical interactions. Dorsal cavity protects the nervous system and has two subdivisions, cranial and vertebral. Cranial cavity encases brain and vertebral cavity encases the spinal cord. Ventral cavity encases the thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities. Thoracic cavity has pleural cavities (lungs), and pericardial cavity (heart).
