Document Summary

Chapter 1: introducing social psychology (do people make situations or do situations make people?) Scientific study of the way in which people"s and group"s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by other people and social situations. We have a different sense of our identity when we are doing something alone than when in being in a group. People burning and breaking stuff because they"re so excited about an outcome (probably wouldn"t do this if you were alone) How you make and constitute the social order and how in turn the other people around you shape your life and your decisions. The situations we"re in are often ambiguous if not invisible to us, and we look to others to help define the situations we"re in (often without realizing it) Perform better at some activity if you perform in a group as opposed to alone. Noticed that people cycled faster in the presence of others than when alone.
