Document Summary

The study of matter and its changes. The essence of the scientific method is the use of carefully experiments to answer questions. To use the scientific method we must first define our goal: that is we must first formulate the question we wish to answer. After defining our goal our next step is to collect information or data about the subject under consideration. After collecting data we form a hypothesis and we test the hypothesis with an experiment. It is an iterative process because it keeps on repeating and there is no end process. This shows us how science is a never ending process and there is no definite answer. Quantitative data is expressed as a number with units. Qualitative data is expressed as general characteristics of the material under study. You should know the metric base units (and their symbols) for volume, mass, length, and temperature.
