Broadly speaking, a dramaturg"s duties are: to select and prepare play-texts for performance, to advice directors and actors, create actor packets to help educate actors on time period, compile information, to educate the audience. Dramaturgs serve as script readers, translators, theatre historians, play adaptors, talent scouts, or even playwrights. Workshops: literary management (very close to theatre) Business background: production dramaturgy (switch to different companies, freelance) Assists the director by supplying information and asking critical questions. Provide program, essays, outreach materials, website content, lobby materials: pre-show and post-show. Unique structure (varies in decor, size, and functionality) Only requirement is empty space to act and watch. Stage managing: back-up director, actor"s best friend record keeper of where actors and set should be placed.
