Basal cell carcinoma (bcc: a locally invasive malignancy arising from epidermal basal cells. It is the most common type of skin cancer and also the least deadly. Squamous cell carcinoma (scc: a malignant neoplasm of keratinizing epidermal cells. It frequently occurs on sun- exposed skin at the base of an actinic keratosis or another lesion. Scc can be highly aggressive, has the potential to metastasize, and may lead to death if not treated early and correctly: pipe, cigar, and cigarette smoking contribute to the formation of scc on the mouth and lips. Immunosuppression leads to a dramatic increase in the incidence of scc.
