Animals that have thick, multiple layers of cells use a circulatory system that contains: Tubes to carry the circulatory fluid (vessels) Blood that bathes the cells and functions as interstitial fluid. Closed circulatory systems : found in vertebrates, earthworms, squids, octopuses. Keeps blood distinct from the interstitial fluid. Single circulation: the arrangement of how blood passes thru the heart of a fish once. Does not supply enough pressure to move blood through the capillaries of the each circuit through the body lungs and then to the body capillaries of a terrestrial vertebrate. Blood is pumped a second time after it loses pressure in the lungs. Arteries: carry blood away from heart to body organs and tissues. Capillaries : convery blood between arteries and veins within each tissue.
