Types of community: communities of place, communities of interest, sense of community. Development: creating the capacity to problem solve. Ex: economic growth= more : more money doesn"t necessarily mean problems are solved, creation of social networks. Activism: bringing attention to an issue; making an agenda public. Enlightened self-interest: understanding that we are all connected, everyone"s well-being is my well-being. The exclusivity of capital: networking, capital is only valuable if it"s somewhat exclusive. How can we create bridging capital: bringing people together from different backgrounds, developing structures, mechanisms, and individual skills to prevent/solve other problems, addressing social issues that wouldn"t normally be addressed. You get to know people and have a better understanding of people. Knowledgeable people that we can put to work on an issue: human capital, economic capital. How is it accumulated: wealthy people- investments.
