Clinical psychologists: try to help worried, depressed, or otherwise troubled people; most familiarly recognized. Psychology also includes research on sensation, perception, learning, memory, hunger/thirst, sleep, attention, child development, etc: it helps you to analyze people. Research progress depends on good measurement: psychologists understanding has advanced on topics such as sensory processes, learning, and memory because researchers can measure aspects of behavior accurately. Research is slower on topics such as emotion and personality: areas of psychology with less certain measurement have tentative conclusions. Correlation does not indicate causation: a correlation indicates that two things go together; cause and effect type of. Example: better educated people have higher paying jobs than less and slow progress conclusions educated people. Variations among individuals reflect both heredity and environment. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior in similar situations: people differ in interests, preferences, abilities, and personalities, people are fairly consistent in how they act, sometimes opinions are formed without complete evidence.
