THTR 1020 : Mid Term Study Guide
Document Summary
If it is ever recorded, it ceases to be theatre: theatre is collaborative- theatre always works with others. Even in a one man show, the actor must act in collaboration with the audience: theatre is a synthesis of the arts- theatre is something that is mad in isolation. It"s a mix and match of different things, such as speech, music, lighting, etc. The book summarizes qualities of good poetry, especially drama. During his time, drama was a form of poetry because all drama was written in verse. The second-most important thing from poetics is that aristotle categorizes drama into two groups: tragedy, comedy. The most crucial point of aristotle"s book is that theatre is a form of mimesis aka imitation. When actors enter a stage, they aren"t themselves anymore; they become they person that he or she is imitating. The difference between theatre and mediatized performances (movies) is that theatre is only done live in front of an audience.
