SOCL 3601 : Walker---Social Interaction Midterm Notes
Document Summary
1: micro- and macrosociology, microsociology focuses on the study of the effects of interpersonal interactions, larger society on social psychological process, and relationships within and between groups. Concerned with the ways in which individuals participate in the construction and maintenance of society: macrosociology focus on the larger-scale of social processes such as poverty rates, fertility and mortality rates, incidence of violence, and social change. It has two major perspectives: structural functionalism and conflict theory. Structural functionalist perspective like a biological organism each part of the body has a function that promotes the survival of the whole. Society needs different groups and individuals to keep society alive. However, not all of the parts are equal leading to the establishment of a hierarchy of more contributing people than others causing more money than prestige. Goal is to believe everyone has a job that helps harmonize society. Social conflict perspective focuses on social inequalities associated with class, race, and gender differences.
