Document Summary

All of cognition is serves by interacting memory systems. When you usually think of memory, we"re usually thinking of storage for facts or experiences (two different types of memory), remembering dates and times. Also during times like walking to classes, having a conversation with someone, identifying everyday objects, etc. We use our memory all the time and without it, we would pretty much loose our ability to function. When we see some object in the environment, it goes straight into our sensory memory, which is large capacity and is used to store raw data. Then we go to short term memory, which is encoded data. This is active information, but this is limited capacity. This is large capacity, and its so information is lost in about 20 seconds (rouge estimate) large that we"re not sure if this information is permanent or not. You see something and it hits your sensory memory first.
