Intersex- difficult to tell of they are female or male. Most of human functioning has a gendered cast. 2-5 months after conception is a critical period. If male fetuses are exposed to excessive estrogens, as a young child he is excessively feminine. Gender identity- internal sense of being male or female. Gender role- social categories of male and female. More recent and more controversial differences: activity level- males are more active, fear, timidity, and risk-taking- females, emotional expressivity/sensitivity- females are more likely to talk about emotional subjects. Males are just as sensitive, but don"t talk about it: compliance- females- more likely to go along with others. Males issue orders to gain compliance, females use suggestions, more diplomatic. Differences are more or less prevalent depending on where you live.
