Tonality- certain chords have more strength and pull than others. Blue note- a note in a scale that gives a bluesy tone, also a famous jazz club in nyc, either a flat 3,7,or7. Chromatic- notes that are foreign to a given key, and the free utilization of altered notes. Diatonic- notes that are found naturally in a given key. Scale- a series of acoustical relationships that divide the octave into tones and semitones, similar to a mode. Mode- similar to a scale, sequence of acoustic relationships, not the same as key. Came from ancient church modes dorian lydian mixolydian. Pentatonics- 5 note scale with no 4th or 7th scale degree. Used by many players as basic vocab in the jazz language. Voicing- manipulation of certain chord tones, putting them in different order. Attack- the start of a note, different shapes. Release- to stop a note, or the bridge of a tune.
