Exam iii covers chapter 4 (4. 1-4. 3) and chapter 5 (5. 1-5. 3, 5. 5, 5. 6). Here is a list of topics that you should well understand for the exam: linear homogeneous di erential equations of general order, nonhomogeneous di erential equations of general order, the methods of undetermined coe cients and incomplete partial. Fraction decomposition: second order di erential equations with variable coe cients, cauchy-euler equations, the method of reduction of order (to nd a second linearly inde- pendent solution, the method of variation of parameters (to nd a particular solution) Beside the homework problems and the last quiz, you should also down- load and work on the old exams posted on the course webpage. However, note that materials in the old exams are somewhat di erent and thus they do not cover much of exam iii of our current class. Therefore, i suggest that you should also work on unassigned exercises in the textbook.
