The american revolution and the war for american independence. General gage, despite being a whig member in parliament, enforces the king"s rules. Continental congress: named continental because they wanted the king to know that this was all of the colonies coming together on their own and agreeing upon change. Why: he wanted to break their strong sense of unity, they were more wealthy. North, stays there (until 1771: because of this, the british (under cornwallis) are able to take georgia ix. Cornwallis was a lot like howe in his treatment of the captured settlers, but his subordinate tarleton, tortured them: at the city of waxhaw, tarleton meets american soldiers xi. Instead of taken them hostage, tarleton decided to dub them traitors and killed them xiii. This angered many other settlers and actually helped the american cause. Clinton: arnold traded west point (after he begged washington to give it to him) for money (in order to pay off his debt) ix.
