HIST 2055 : Take Home Final
Document Summary
The first shots of the civil war went off in april 1861 at fort sumter. The union army showed up with only a few thousands troops because they imagined that the confederates really did not want to fight. The union thought that they would just meet at the battleground and would be able to talk the confederates out of war. Plans were going well, until a cannon from the confederate army fired off a shot. Although it was an accident the war would continue for about four years (nations at war). It is astonishing that a country would split apart and fight each other, when they are supposed to be one nation. This fighting against each other showed a weakness to other nations of the world. The united states came out fortunate because no other nation tried to take over while we were weakened.
