Hermes is the god of pure, out of the blue, good luck (akin to winning the lottery). He is also the god of businessmen and thieves. This is because these jobs rely on a significant portion of pure good luck: not long after wwii, a major us car company decided to corner the market. They had the resources and set out to do just that. They conducted the largest (and most expensive spending millions) market analysis that had ever been done by a company in order to find out exactly what an american wanted in a car. The data was analyzed and given to the engineers and designers. Plants had to be modified, causing more millions to be spent. Spent millions on advertisement of this secret car. When put on the showroom floor, people hated the vehicle. It was ugly and became a complete failure. People lost their jobs and millions of dollars were lost.
