Paleoanthropology: definition: the study of the fossil record and it"s the study of trying to understand the relationship of each other and to us (modern humans); study of human evolution, three goals: (know this) "teetering on the brink of catastrophe: neurological, anatomical, and skeletal. This places the skulls right on top of your vertebrate; you are then allowed to have a forward facing face. In an ape it is more posterior located for the spinal cord. It allows them to look closer near the ground. (quadrapedalism: spinal curvature, we have a "s" shaped curve, helps with the shock of walking (all the cartilage in between vertebra) In a biped it helps you balance and hold chest upright (in order to hold organs) Hypotheses for bipedality: freeing the hands, carry objects, gathering (reaching)- allows you to reach further and higher. They are not necessarily visible but if they are they are just cracks in the ground.
