This tells us what makes a hominin a hominin. Features: bipedalism, small canines, brain size, specialized diet, growth and development, other various things that are hard to categorize. Foramen magnum position will give indication on how the spinal cord and spine is attached to the skull. Lumbar and cervical lordosis- there are two lordotic curves in the human spine and one kyphotic curve, vertebral wedging. Valgus knee (bicondylar angle)- the knee is angled so that it can support our body weight while upright. Pelvis shape- broad and short ilium (top of pelvis), shaped in a bowl in order to hold internal organs comfortably while standing, ilium rotates into sagittal plane. Hip stabilizing mechanism- the lesser gluteal muscles (medius and minimus) are hip extensors in other primates but are hip abductors or stabilizers in humans, iliac blade faces more laterally which changes the orientation of the hip muscles.
