Readings: the most important readings for the final will be the chapter introductions for chapters 8 and 9 and the reading by foley (177-181 in text). In addition, i highly recommend reading page 140 in your text about sickle-cell anemia. You are responsible only for those readings posted since. When studying the slides, pay particular attention to topics that integrate concepts from earlier in the semester. Approximately 80% of the exam is based on the last 1/3 of the course (agriculture/malaria), but many concepts from earlier in the semester were integrated into the agriculture and malaria material. Important concepts from earlier in the semester (examples only!) Binomial nomenclature and proper way of writing scientific names. The central dogma of molecular genetics: transcription and translation. Phenotypes result from genotype + environment + interactions. Metabolism in crop plants / increasing crop yields. Inefficiency/energy loss during metabolic processes and energy transfers. Know the products and reactants in photosynthesis and respiration.
