Experiment 7 Exercise 1: EvolutionaryChange without Natural Selection

In this first exercise, we are going to look for evidence ofevolutionary change in a population in the absenceof natural selection by looking at the change in allele frequenciesover time in a simulated population. We will start with apopulation of 50 individuals in which there aretwo alternate alleles (H andh) in equal proportions (each at afrequency of 0.5 or 50%). Individuals have the possiblegenotypes: HH,Hh or hh. Thesetwo alleles do not offer any selective advantage,so neither is selected for or against, meaning they areneutral. We will record the frequency of thesealleles over 10 generations. Prior to advancing on to the nextgeneration, six alleles (= three individuals) will be removed atrandom.
