Lust is an animalistic urge, represented by pan and satyrs, half men, half goat. Satyrs were supposed to be unbalanced, too much animal, stories about them usually focused on them forcing themselves on women in the woods. Women could be scholars, like saphos, from the isle of lesbos. She wrote a lot of poetry in praise of women, where we get the word lesbian. Greece was a major military power, involved in many foreign wars, so lots of men were together alone for long stretches of time. Erotic attachments developed, not really a homosexual thing, their culture didn"t pigeon-hole people into categories like that. Greek military had lovers fight side by side so they would fight harder, protect each other. Pederasty existed, a socially accepted relationship between a youth and an older man. Older man acted as a mentor, taught boy the art of war, reading, writing, etc. \ Mentor was called erastes (lover), boy was called eromanos (beloved)
