Four areas are emphasized: the sources of the law, the court system, legal procedure, alternative dispute resolution. Law is a system of principles and rules devised by organized society for the purpose of controlling human conduct: purpose of law is to avoid conflicts between individuals and between government and citizens. Supremacy clause: cannot dilute or impair individual rights. Legal procedure: substantive law: creates and defines rights and duties, procedural law: provides the means of enforcing and protecting rights granted by substantive law. On one sense, property means things real or personal, immovable or movable, corporeal or incorporeal, visible or invisible, and tangible or intangible. Property describes the relationship between people and things: the right of a person to possess use or own things. Personal property: everything that is not real property: is it movable, also known as chattel, can be tangible or intangible (stock certificates, intellectual property (trademarks, patents, etc. ) is also under personal property.
