1. Health Protection- An authority based control of behaviors by religious and cultural
practices. (Beginning of humanity to 1830s)
2. Hygiene Movement- Improved sanitation helps health through community wide action.
(1840s- 1870s)
3. Contagion Control- The germ theory is created. Communicable diseases are fought with
vaccines, sanitation control and outbreak investigation. (1880s- 1940s)
4. Filling Holes in Medical care system- We mostly just added onto the contagion control era.
(1950s-1980s)
5. Health Promotion/ Disease Prevention- Focused on individual disease and at risk population
prevention. (1980s-2000)
