Document Summary

Stallion reproductive anatomy and endocrine system and semen analysis. 50cm flaccid, 100 cm erect distal 15-20 cm free in prepuce. Practical tip: need the a. v. to fit the stallion. Retractor penis muscle retains the penis in the sheath. Paralysis (paramphimosis): the penis will hang out, fill with edema, which raises the pressure enough to cut off blood supply, and the penile tissue undergoes necrosis. Acepromazine (in 1/1000 of stallions: glans penis: triples in size (belling/flowering) after ejaculation. B. 1. a) majority of expansile tissue is on the dorsal aspect, so that the erect penis curves dorsally. Urethra is on ventral third aspect of the penis. Not a 360o expansion, so urethra isn"t occluded. Penis enters the mare before it is fully erect, because the tripled size of the glans penis won"t fit. B. 2. b) blood pressure responsive expansion seals the mare"s vagina during copulation. Glans is hidden in the prepuce--if you see it, that"s not normal.
