Papers had to increase prices to stay afloat and to pay for correspondents. Overall coverage was pretty bad since everyone was inexperienced and not many were willing to work cooperatively with journalists. Successes: truly became daily since they published sunday papers as well. More employees and new technologies shifted the newspaper into a factory business. Photography used (even though it was limited) to show the truth and led to a shift in much more visual journalism (including maps and headlines) following the 1860s.
