• Imagine that Friedrich Nietzsche was put in charge of the World State from Brave New World. What
changes do you think would he make in order to improve the human race?
o Friedrich Nietzsche would be disgusted with Mustapha Mond’s World State. Nietzsche
believes in the advancement of the human race as an entity. He wishes for everyone to work
collectively to improve the human race to reach the Ubermensch (Superman). Furthermore
he believes that you have to devote your life making it better than it is now. In Dorian Gray,
Lord Henry is a member of the elite class and a superior, however, he does not use his social
status and wealth to better society and the lower class. Instead he sets goals that are
worthless and selfish and Nietzsche would say that this is the wrong way to live and be
completely against Henry’s way of life.
o The native american reservations would need to be incorporated into the rest of
civilization, according to Nietzsche. This is because he believes that in order for humanity to
work towards their ultimate goal, the goal must be set for the entire human race.
o Allow everyone to be able to have access to reading literature in order to gain knowledge
and play their role in the advancement of the human race. Mond controls everyone by
refusing to let others read the historical books because he believes that they wouldn't
understand. If he were to allow them to have the opportunity to read and obtain knowledge
then only would the human race advance.
o Moving forward with the changes Nietzsche would implement, he would start by
eliminating soma. Soma blinds people from the true disturbances in life and you have to
recognize the disturbances and obstacle in order to resolve them and move forward with
advancing the human race. He would reintroduce the will to power to all people and
eliminate the predetermined social status. Great people embrace their will to power, control
it, and channel it towards a superior goal. Nietzsche would believe that the social hierarchy
described in Mustapha mond’s World State, is inhibiting the growth of humanity by
limiting the potential of the lower class Delta, Epsilon’s.
o Get rid of technology behind cloning and creating identical babies→ because it already
predetermined how they would think and act and therefore it prohibits them from naturally
being able to think, feel and grow.
Get rid of word controller→ serve as dictators and prohibit the people from advancing and thinking of new
ideas on how to expand the human race. Instead they just have them constantly drugged on soma and live idle
lives in their caste.
