Responsiveness is being nurturing and loving, demandingness is setting rules and standards and encouraging kids to meet those rules. Best parenting style is authoritative- high demandingness and high responsiveness, loving, caring, warm, nurturing, adolescents from these homes tend to have high achievement, high self esteem, social competence, greater responsibility. Permissive/indulgent parent: low in demandingness, high in responsiveness, spoil their children, set no rules, adolescents in this home are disobedient, disrespectful toward authority figures, lack social competence, susceptible to peer pressure. High conflict divorce leads to kids with problems in school, kids act out or be delinquent, these kids suffer from anxiety and depression. Chapter 9 peers: cliques- smaller, more intimate peer groups.
