Document Summary

Be able to identify the different types of craters (simple, complex, impact basins) (see p. Simple crater- small, and have very basic bowl structure usually less than 4 km on earth and 15 km on the moon. Complex crater- flat crater floors, terraces around the crater walls, one to several uplifted mountains or peaks within. Impact basis- very large impact structures, very flat crater floors over 300 km in diameter. Be able to determine the relative age of craters based on crosscutting relationships. Look for colorations, or fallout and layering. Exercise 2 seafloor topography and plate tectonics. Know the three different types of plate boundaries and be able to identify examples of each. Convergent boundary-- toward each other (pacific plate with north american plate) Divergent boundary-- away from each other (atlantic mid-ocean ridge) Transform boundary-- slide side-by side (californian san andreas fault)
